I’ve been following this Mike Posner for a while now. I’m happy that he’s finally getting the attention he deserves. Here’s a pair of remixes I did.
Rolling in the Deep (Barry Felipe REMIX)
I absolutely love this song so I figured I’d try a remix for it. It turned out pretty dark and mysterious (I think).
1 Commercial 5 Ways
This was a relatively slow week so I challenged myself to create 5 different musical pieces for 1 commercial. The commercial is an ad for Rolex promoting their watch the the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.
1. First up is an orchestrated piece called Open Sea. The constant string section is always pushing, never stopping, while the horns provide a sense of adventure and mystery, accompanied by a woodwind section that gives a sense of victory and triumph.
2. Next up is a number I call Sophistication Through Simplicity. This version was made to represent to peacefulness and silence of the ocean and sailing in the ocean. Even in a race one will find himself at peace when all he sees is the vastness of the ocean.
3. There’s no way I can say my writing style isn’t influenced by Nobuo Uematsu. I grew up playing the Final Fantasy games. Smooth Sailing is an example of unison and how everything has to work together. The instruments in harmony with each other. The crew members in synch with one another. A Rolex watch and its many moving parts working together for one purpose. This piece represents unison and harmony.
4. The big drums and melodic woodwinds in this piece (Never Drifting) gives it a very East Asian theme. The song is full of movement, adventure and exploration.
5. Beyond the Horizon you find me playing live guitar and bass. This is a more “modern” interpretation…still big, still epic, still Barry Felipe Music.
Zelen Shoes
This is a fun, light, synthy hip hop piece. I tried to capture the carefree, summer feel of the video. It was cut very rhythmically, which I found difficult to write to. There were some obvious spots that I had to hit otherwise the entire project would look and sound disjointed. With that said, hit play and enjoy.
